Cycloheximide and puromycin, well\u2010known inhibitors of protein synthesis, block the maturation process induced by progesterone and insulin but do not affect the maturation caused by H\u2010<jats:italic>ras<\/jats:italic>\n<jats:sup>lys 12<\/jats:sup> protein microinjection. Theophylline, an inhibitor of cAMP phosphodiesterase that also affects oocyte protein synthesis, does cause a partial inhibition of <jats:italic>ras<\/jats:italic> protein\u2010induced maturation.
