{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,9,30]],"date-time":"2025-09-30T00:09:24Z","timestamp":1759190964101},"reference-count":29,"publisher":"Wiley","issue":"2","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2001,10,19]],"date-time":"2001-10-19T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1003449600000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":4561,"URL":"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/termsAndConditions#vor"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["FEBS Letters"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1989,4,24]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>Recombinant <jats:italic>Aplysia rho<\/jats:italic> and a GTP\u2010binding protein purified from human neutrophil membranes (G<jats:sub>22K<\/jats:sub>) were ADP\u2010ribosylated by botulinum toxin C<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> with stoichiometries of 0.8 and 0.6, respectively. <jats:italic>Rho<\/jats:italic> and G<jats:sub>22K<\/jats:sub> appeared to be different proteins since (i) <jats:italic>rho<\/jats:italic> migrated faster on polyacrylamide gels, (ii) unlike G<jats:sub>22K<\/jats:sub>, <jats:italic>rho<\/jats:italic> did not require the presence of cytosol to be ADP\u2010ribosylated, (iii) G<jats:sub>22K<\/jats:sub> was not recognized by an anti\u2010<jats:italic>rho<\/jats:italic> antiserum, and (iv) antibody 142\u201024E05 recognized G<jats:sub>22K<\/jats:sub> effectively but only poorly cross reacted with <jats:italic>rho<\/jats:italic>. ADP\u2010ribosylation had no effect on the ability of <jats:italic>rho<\/jats:italic> to bind or hydrolyse GTP. Therefore, it appears that there are multiple botulinum toxin C<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> substrates and that the toxin exerts its effects on cell function by a mechanism other than modulating the GTPase activity of
