Using this method we have measured the effects of external calcium, complement, phagocytosis and antibiotics on the [Ca<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup>]<jats:sub>i<\/jats:sub> of <jats:italic>Escherichia coli<\/jats:italic>.
