A kirromycin\u2010resistant<jats:italic>E. coli<\/jats:italic>strain became sensitive to this antibiotic upon the expression of the<jats:italic>tufA<\/jats:italic>\u2010gene of<jats:italic>T. thermophilus<\/jats:italic>present on a plasmid. In in vitro translation with components of the kirromycin\u2010resistant<jats:italic>E. coli<\/jats:italic>strain the poly(Phe) synthesis stopped when minute amounts of the EF\u2010Tu from<jats:italic>T. thermophilus<\/jats:italic>were added.
