The deduced amino acid sequence consists of 380 residues with features shared by members of the G protein\u2010coupled receptor family. The specific binding of [<jats:sup>3<\/jats:sup>H]bremazocine to the membrane of COS\u20107 cells transfected with the cDNA was displaced by <jats:italic>k<\/jats:italic>\u2010specific opioid ligands, but not by \u03bc\u2010 and \u03b4\u2010specific ligands. <jats:italic>Xenopus<\/jats:italic> oocytes injected with the in vitro transcribed mRNA responded to opioid ligands with the same subtype specificity.
