Activator\/PAI\u20101 complexes and uncomplexed t\u2010PA bind to the multiligand receptors \u03b1<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> macroglubulin receptor\/low density lipoprotein receptor\u2010related protein (\u03b1<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>MR) and epithelial glycoprotein 330 (gp330). These receptors mediate endocytosis and degradation of u\u2010PA\/PAI\u20101 complex bound to the glycosyl phosphatidyl inositol\u2010anchored urokinase receptor (u\u2010PAR) on cell surfaces, and participate, in cooperation with other receptors, in hepatic clearance of activator\/PAI\u20101 complexes and uncomplexed t\u2010PA from blood plasma. The \u03b1<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>MR\u2010 and gp330\u2010mediated endocytosis of a ligand (u\u2010PA\/PAI\u20101 complex) initially bound to another receptor (u\u2010PAR) is a novel kind of interaction between membrane receptors.
