For this purpose immunoblot analysis of \u03b2\u2010cell membranes was performed with subunit\u2010specific antibodies. We identified NMDAR1 subunits of the NMDA and KA\u20102 subunits of the kainate receptors, but did not detect GluR1 subunits of the AMPA receptor. The receptor subunits present were shown to be glycosylated. \u03b2\u2010cell membranes contained specific binding sites for glutamate receptor ligands, and NMDA increased insulin secretion.
