A gene cluster very similar to <jats:italic>nqr<\/jats:italic> operon was found to exist in the genome of <jats:italic>Haemophilus influenzae<\/jats:italic> Rd. We examined the membrane fraction from <jats:italic>H. influenzae<\/jats:italic>, and the respiratory chain of <jats:italic>H. influenzae<\/jats:italic> was found to contain a Na<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>\u2010dependent NQR that is essentially identical to those found in the marine <jats:italic>V. alginoltyticus<\/jats:italic>.
