We found that motif L is composed of a highly selective Ca<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup> sensor and an adjacent Ca<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup>\u2010independent tethering site for calmodulin. The Ca<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup> sensor contributes to higher Ca<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup> sensitivity of the motif L complex with calmodulin.
