Here we show that the ferrocyanide\u2010peroxidase activity of cytochrome <jats:italic>c<\/jats:italic> oxidase incorporated in phospholipid vesicles is coupled to proton pumping. The H<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>\/<jats:italic>e<\/jats:italic>\n<jats:sup>\u2212<\/jats:sup> ratio for the ferrocyanide\u2010<jats:italic>peroxidase<\/jats:italic> partial reaction is twice higher than for the overall ferrocyanide\u2010<jats:italic>oxidase<\/jats:italic> activity and is close to 2.
