{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,2,27]],"date-time":"2026-02-27T18:22:39Z","timestamp":1772216559896,"version":"3.50.1"},"reference-count":23,"publisher":"Wiley","issue":"1","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[1997,11,7]],"date-time":"1997-11-07T00:00:00Z","timestamp":878860800000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":67,"URL":"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/termsAndConditions#vor"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["FEBS Letters"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1997,9]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>In further substantiating the novel mevalonate\u2010independent pathway for isoprenoid biosynthesis, which generates isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP) via 1\u2010deoxy\u2010<jats:sc>d<\/jats:sc>\u2010xylulose\u20105\u2010phosphate, labeling experiments with 1\u2010[<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>H<jats:sub>1<\/jats:sub>]deoxy\u2010<jats:sc>d<\/jats:sc>\u2010xylulose were performed with various higher plants and algae: efficient incorporation was observed into isoprene emitted by <jats:italic>Populus<\/jats:italic>, <jats:italic>Chelidonium<\/jats:italic>, and <jats:italic>Salix<\/jats:italic>, into the phytol moiety of chlorophylls in a red alga (<jats:italic>Cyanidium<\/jats:italic>), in two green algae (<jats:italic>Scenedesmus<\/jats:italic>, <jats:italic>Chlamydomonas<\/jats:italic>), and a higher plant (<jats:italic>Lemna<\/jats:italic>). By contrast, <jats:sup>13<\/jats:sup>C\u2010mevalonate applied was incorporated into isoprene and phytol to a much lower extent or not at all.
