We investigate the role of the UPR in the induction of <jats:italic>CHOP<\/jats:italic> by amino acid deprivation and show that this induction is not correlated with <jats:italic>BiP<\/jats:italic> expression (an UPR marker). Moreover, amino acid deprivation and UPR inducers regulate the <jats:italic>CHOP<\/jats:italic> promoter activity using distinct <jats:italic>cis<\/jats:italic> elements.
