Increasing information on GPCR sequences and the G protein family would facilitate prediction of the coupling properties of GPCRs. In this study, we describe a novel approach for predicting the coupling specificity between GPCRs and G proteins. This method uses not only GPCR sequences but also the functional knowledge generated by natural language processing, and can achieve 92.2% prediction accuracy by using the C4.5 algorithm. Furthermore, rules related to GPCR-G protein coupling are generated. The combination of sequence analysis and text mining improves the prediction accuracy for GPCR-G protein coupling specificity, and also provides clues for understanding GPCR signaling.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1016\/s1672-0229(07)60004-7","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,5,25]],"date-time":"2007-05-25T05:36:27Z","timestamp":1180071387000},"page":"238-244","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Prediction of GPCR-G Protein Coupling Specificity Using Features of Sequences and Biological Functions"],"prefix":"10.1093","volume":"4","author":[{"given":"Toshihide","family":"Ono","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Laboratory of Bioinformatics, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. , Tokushima, Kawauchi-cho, 771-0192 , Japan"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Haretsugu","family":"Hishigaki","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Laboratory of Bioinformatics, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. , Tokushima, Kawauchi-cho, 771-0192 , Japan"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"286","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2007,5,23]]},"reference":[{"key":"2024051008214715400_bib1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"765","DOI":"10.1210\/er.2000-0026","article-title":"Insights into G protein structure, function, and regulation","volume":"24","author":"Cabrera-Vesa","year":"2003","journal-title":"Endocr.
