The open reading frames predict an \u03b1\u2010subunit of 100 kDa (856 residues), and a \u03b2\u2010subunit of 99 kDa (853 residues). Sequence analysis of two of twelve \u03b2\u2010subunit clones predicts the presence in the retina of an additional PDE, termed \u03b2, which is generated by alternative splicing of the \u03b2\u2010subunit gene, \u03b2 differs from \u03b2 only at the C\u2010terminus being 55 residues shorter and lacking the Caax motif found at the C\u2010termini of both the \u03b1\u2010 and \u03b2\u2010subunits.
