The molecular weight was estimated to be 67 kDa by SDS\u2010PAGE and its N\u2010terminus is homologous to those of the 16 hemes containing high molecular weight cytochrome <jats:italic>c<\/jats:italic> from <jats:italic>Desulfovibrio vulgaris<\/jats:italic> strains Hildenborough and Miyazaki. The purified hemoprotein shows <jats:italic>c<\/jats:italic>\u2010type cytochrome absorption spectrum with \u03b5<jats:sub>553<\/jats:sub>(red) = 368 mM<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup> \u00b7 cm<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>. A band at 640 nm, characteristic of high\u2010spin hemes, was detected. The EPR spectra show the presence of two high\u2010spin heme species, plus several non\u2010equivalent low\u2010spin hemes. The heme reduction potentials, at pH 7.6, range from \u221250 mV to \u2212315 mV.
