Previously we isolated DMAP\u201085, a <jats:italic>Drosophila<\/jats:italic> MAP shown to be associated with stable MTs. In this work we show that DMAP\u201085 phosphorylated in cell\u2010free early embryo extracts is released from MTs. MPM\u20102 antibodies recognize the phosphorylated protein. In vitro, DMAP\u201085 can be phosphorylated by the mitotic kinase Polo affecting its binding to MTs and creating MPM\u20102 epitopes on the protein.
