The relative inhibition evoked by p<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>A and P<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> (1 \u03bcM) was 40 and 60%, respectively, whereas 1 \u03bcM Ap<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>A was not inhibitory. P<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> and P<jats:sub>15<\/jats:sub> were assayed as inhibitors of the enzyme in the presence of (a) saturating tRNA and variable concentrations of ATP and (b) saturating ATP and variable concentrations of tRNA. In (a), P<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> and P<jats:sub>15<\/jats:sub> behaved as competitive inhibitors, with <jats:italic>K<\/jats:italic>\n<jats:sub>i<\/jats:sub> values of 0.5 \u03bcM and 0.2 \u03bcM, respectively. In addition, P<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> (at 1 \u03bcM) and P<jats:sub>15<\/jats:sub> (at 0.3 \u03bcM) changed the Hill coefficient (<jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic>\n<jats:sub>H<\/jats:sub>) from 1 (control) to about 1.3 and 1.6, respectively.
