However, here we show that LH<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> is partly transformed, shortly after the onset of the luciferase reaction, to dehydroluciferin (L) with formation of an E\u00b7L\u2010AMP complex which is the main intermediate for the synthesis of Ap<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>A. Formation of three more derivatives of LH<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> were also observed, related to the production of light by the enzyme.
