The former describes vibrational features of strongly coupled modes (characterised by factor group splitting in the pure crystal). In the mixed crystal, each contributor loses its individuality and only one band appears. This band varies in frequency, in most cases linearly, with the composition from the frequency of one end member to that of the other and appears with approximately constant intensity. Two-mode behaviour is characteristic of uncoupled vibrators and the mixed crystal spectrum is essentially a superposition of the spectra of the pure components, where band intensities change with the concentration of each member."},{"key":"10.1016\/S0584-8539(87)80053-3_bib11","unstructured":"E.
