Res."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1969,12]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>The mouse<jats:italic>X<\/jats:italic>-chromosome controlling elements, detected by their influence on the position effect variegation caused by the<jats:italic>X<\/jats:italic>-autosome translocation<jats:italic>T<\/jats:italic>(1;<jats:italic>X<\/jats:italic>)<jats:italic>Ct<\/jats:italic>, have been found to modify the heterozygous phenotypes of two<jats:italic>X<\/jats:italic>-linked genes. It is proposed that<jats:italic>X<\/jats:italic>-inactivation can be incomplete, the level of inactivation or the frequency of cells in which inactivation is incomplete being dependent upon the \u2018state\u2019 of the controlling element located in the<jats:italic>X<\/jats:italic>.
