Res."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1980,4]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>SUMMARY<\/jats:title><jats:p>Linkage relationships of three gene markers of chromosome 17, namely <jats:italic>Brachyury (T), tufted (tf)<\/jats:italic>, and <jats:italic>Histocompatibility-2 (H-2)<\/jats:italic>, to the break-point of <jats:italic>T(16; 17)43H<\/jats:italic> male sterile translocation were established. The following order was found: <jats:italic>T<\/jats:italic>\u2212<jats:italic>tf<\/jats:italic>\u2212<jats:italic>T43H<\/jats:italic>\u2212<jats:italic>H-2<\/jats:italic>. In all cases the translocation break was found in cis to <jats:italic>H-2<jats:sup>k<\/jats:sup><\/jats:italic>, haplotype, no recombinant being found among 218 backcross individuals examined. More than 60 viable and fertile animals trisomic for the proximal part of chromosome 17 (including <jats:italic>T-t<\/jats:italic> genetic complex) have been recovered among progeny of <jats:italic>T43H<\/jats:italic>\/+ female translocation heterozygotes as a result of adjacent \u22122 disjunction at first meiotic division. Mutation <jats:italic>tf<\/jats:italic> has been assigned to band 17B in chromosome 17 by comparing the location of <jats:italic>T190Ca<\/jats:italic> and <jats:italic>T43H<\/jats:italic> genetic and cytological breakpoints. Recombination between centromere 17 and <jats:italic>T43H<\/jats:italic> break was reduced almost to zero in the presence of <jats:italic>Rb(16.17)7Bnr<\/jats:italic> translocation. The unexpected restoration of male fertility was observed in <jats:italic>T43H<\/jats:italic>\/<jats:italic>Rb7Bnr<\/jats:italic> hybrids (<jats:italic>T43H<\/jats:italic>\/+ males being completely sterile) which made it possible to prepare the first homozygotes for <jats:italic>T43H<\/jats:italic> male\u2013sterile translocation. Direct estimation of chiasma frequencies in centromere 17\u2212<jats:italic>T43H<\/jats:italic> region indicated an 11 cM distance between the centromere 17 and the proximal end of <jats:italic>t<\/jats:italic><jats:sup>12<\/jats:sup> haplotype.
