This paper presents a variant of TBL, called \nRandomized TBL, that overcomes the training time problems of standard TBL without \nsacrificing accuracy. It includes a set of experiments on part-of-speech tagging in which the \nsize of the corpus and template set are varied. The results show that Randomized TBL \ncan address problems that are intractable in terms of training time for standard TBL. In \naddition, for language problems such as dialogue act tagging where the most effective features \nhave not been identified through linguistic studies, Randomized TBL allows the researcher \nto experiment with a large set of templates capturing many potentially useful features and \nfeature interactions.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1017\/s1351324901002662","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2002,7,27]],"date-time":"2002-07-27T13:16:36Z","timestamp":1027775796000},"page":"99-116","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":6,"title":["Randomized rule selection in transformation-based learning: a comparative study"],"prefix":"10.1017","volume":"7","author":[{"given":"SANDRA","family":"CARBERRY","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"K.","family":"VIJAY-SHANKER","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"ANDREW","family":"WILSON","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"KEN","family":"SAMUEL","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"56","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2001,7,25]]},"container-title":["Natural Language Engineering"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/services\/aop-cambridge-core\/content\/view\/S1351324901002662","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2019,3,29]],"date-time":"2019-03-29T19:02:42Z","timestamp":1553886162000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/product\/identifier\/S1351324901002662\/type\/journal_article"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2001,6]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"2","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2001,6]]}},"alternative-id":["S1351324901002662"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1017\/s1351324901002662","relation":{},"ISSN":["1351-3249","1469-8110"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1351-3249","type":"print"},{"value":"1469-8110","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2001,6]]}}}
