In particular, ACL has recently introduced a new process where there are special reviews of some papers for ethics. We would be more comfortable with the new ethics process if there were more checks and balances, due process and transparency. Otherwise, there is a risk that the process could intimidate authors in ways that are not that dissimilar from the ways that academics were intimidated during the Cold War on both sides of the Iron Curtain.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1017\/s135132492100005x","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,5,31]],"date-time":"2021-05-31T10:02:07Z","timestamp":1622455327000},"page":"379-390","update-policy":"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1017\/policypage","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Emerging trends: Ethics, intimidation, and the Cold War"],"prefix":"10.1017","volume":"27","author":[{"given":"Kenneth Ward","family":"Church","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Valia","family":"Kordoni","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"56","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,5,31]]},"reference":[{"key":"S135132492100005X_ref4","volume-title":"Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement without Giving In","author":"Fisher","year":"1981"},{"key":"S135132492100005X_ref6","volume-title":"The Oppenheimer Case","author":"Stern","year":"1969"},{"key":"S135132492100005X_ref7","first-page":"5998","volume-title":"Attention is All you Need","author":"Vaswani","year":"2017"},{"key":"S135132492100005X_ref2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Blodgett, S.L. , Barocas, S. , Daum\u00e9, H. and Wallach, H.
