Eng."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1996,12]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>In spite of the wide availability of more powerful (context free, \nmildly context \nsensitive, and even Turing-equivalent) formalisms, the bulk of the applied\n work on \nlanguage and sublanguage modeling, especially for the purposes of recognition\n and \ntopic search, is still performed by various finite state methods. \nIn fact, the use of \nsuch methods in research labs as well as in applied work actually increased\n in the \npast five years.
