Helminthol."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1985,3]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>Samples of wild rabbits were collected each month over the six-year period 1977\u201382 and their intestines and abdomens examined for helminths. Three species of nematode, four of cestode and one trematode were found,<jats:italic>Graphidium strigosum<\/jats:italic>was recorded in 33% of the 786 rabbits,<jats:italic>Trichostrongylus retortaeformis<\/jats:italic>in 79%,<jats:italic>Passalurus ambiguus<\/jats:italic>in 14\u00b72%<jats:italic>Cittotaenia Pectinata<\/jats:italic>in 37%,<jats:italic>C. denticulata<\/jats:italic>in 11%,<jats:italic>Coenurus pisiformis<\/jats:italic>in 3%,<jats:italic>Cysticercus serialis<\/jats:italic>in 0\u00b71% and<jats:italic>Fasciola hepatica<\/jats:italic>in 0\u00b71%.<jats:italic>G. strigosum<\/jats:italic>and<jats:italic>P. ambiguus<\/jats:italic>infections were greatest in the older heavier animals whereas juvenile rabbits had the heaviest<jats:italic>T. retortaeformis<\/jats:italic>nematode burdens. Seasonal fluctuations were observed in<jats:italic>G. strigosum, T. retortaeformis, P. ambiguus<\/jats:italic>and<jats:italic>Cittotaenia denticulata.<\/jats:italic>The sex and reproductive state of the female rabbit did not have any significant effect on either the nematode or cestode worm burdens.
