It is a story of three federal canons: of greater and lesser thinkers, of utopian peace plans, and of practical experiences with federal unions. Together they shaped the concepts that created the ECSC.<br><br>This book unlocks the past of the EU - a union that always thought it didn't have a past, but was, on the contrary, 'sui generis', without examples or predecessors. Although there was nothing inevitable about the founding of the EU, <i>A More Perfect Union<\/i> shows that it was plausible and perhaps even predictable that such a union would be formed at some point - and that the aftermath of the Second World War was exactly the kind of founding moment about which federal theorists in previous centuries had speculated.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1017\/9789048563784","type":"monograph","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,12,17]],"date-time":"2024-12-17T00:06:03Z","timestamp":1734393963000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["A More Perfect Union"],"prefix":"10.1017","author":[{"given":"Joshua","family":"Livestro","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"56","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2024,12,17]]},"container-title":[],"original-title":[],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2024,12,17]],"date-time":"2024-12-17T00:06:06Z","timestamp":1734393966000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/product\/identifier\/9789048563784\/type\/book"}},"subtitle":["Federal Union in Political Theory and Practice, 1500-1951"],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2024,5,30]]},"ISBN":["9789048563784"],"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1017\/9789048563784","relation":{"is-identical-to":[{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.1353\/book.124822","asserted-by":"subject"},{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.1515\/9789048563784","asserted-by":"subject"},{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.2307\/jj.15213775","asserted-by":"subject"},{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.5117\/9789048563777","asserted-by":"subject"}]},"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2024,5,30]]}}}
