Res."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1968,6]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>Mutations in at least five different genetic loci cause some degree of resistance to Chloramphenicol, Tetracycline or both antibiotics in<jats:italic>Escherichia coli<\/jats:italic>K12. Two have been identified as chromosomal genes:<jats:italic>cmlA<\/jats:italic>near \u03bb prophage and<jats:italic>cmlB<\/jats:italic>near<jats:italic>pyrD<\/jats:italic>. A third, giving mucoid antibiotic-resistant mutants, is probably<jats:italic>capR<\/jats:italic>(<jats:italic>Ion<\/jats:italic>) near<jats:italic>lac<\/jats:italic>. Another group of mucoid mutants gives marked increases in resistance to Tetracycline and in sensitivity to Puromycin; these mutants do not occur at<jats:italic>capR<\/jats:italic>.
