Res."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2016,4]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>Several studies have shown that manipulating flowering weeds within an agroecosystem can have an important role in pest control by natural enemies, by providing them nectar and pollen, which are significant sources of nutrition for adults. The aim of this study was to assess if the olive moth,<jats:italic>Prays oleae<\/jats:italic>(Bernard, 1788) (Lepidoptera: Praydidae), and five of its main natural enemies, the parasitoid species<jats:italic>Chelonus elaeaphilus<\/jats:italic>Silvestri (Hymenoptera: Braconidae),<jats:italic>Apanteles xanthostigma<\/jats:italic>(Haliday) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae),<jats:italic>Ageniaspis fuscicollis<\/jats:italic>(Dalman) (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) and<jats:italic>Elasmus flabellatus<\/jats:italic>(Fonscolombe) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), as well as the predator<jats:italic>Chrysoperla carnea<\/jats:italic>(Stephens) (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae), can theoretically access the nectar from 21 flowering weeds that naturally occur in olive groves. Thus, the architecture of the flowers as well as the mouthpart structure and\/or the head and thorax width of the pest and its enemies were analyzed. The results suggested that all beneficial insects were able to reach nectar of the plant species from Apiaceae family, i.e.<jats:italic>Conopodium majus<\/jats:italic>(Gouan) Loret,<jats:italic>Daucus carota<\/jats:italic>L. and<jats:italic>Foeniculum vulgare<\/jats:italic>Mill., as well as<jats:italic>Asparagus acutifolius<\/jats:italic>L.,<jats:italic>Echium plantagineum<\/jats:italic>L.,<jats:italic>Capsella bursa-pastoris<\/jats:italic>(L.) Medik.,<jats:italic>Raphanus raphanistrum<\/jats:italic>L.,<jats:italic>Lonicera hispanica<\/jats:italic>Boiss. et Reut.,<jats:italic>Silene gallica<\/jats:italic>L.,<jats:italic>Spergula arvensis<\/jats:italic>L.,<jats:italic>Hypericum perforatum<\/jats:italic>L.,<jats:italic>Calamintha baetica<\/jats:italic>Boiss. et Reut,<jats:italic>Malva neglecta<\/jats:italic>Wallr. and<jats:italic>Linaria saxatilis<\/jats:italic>(L.) Chaz.<jats:italic>P. oleae<\/jats:italic>was not able to access nectar from five plant species, namely:<jats:italic>Andryala integrifolia<\/jats:italic>L.,<jats:italic>Chondrilla juncea<\/jats:italic>L.,<jats:italic>Dittrichia viscosa<\/jats:italic>(L.) Greuter,<jats:italic>Sonchus asper<\/jats:italic>(L.)
