Mar. Biol. Ass."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2017,8]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>Six nephtyid species were identified from samples collected off the west coast of Saudi Arabia. Two of these species had been previously reported for the Red Sea (<jats:italic>Inermonephtys<\/jats:italic>aff.<jats:italic>inermis<\/jats:italic>,<jats:italic>Nephtys palatii<\/jats:italic>), three are new records (<jats:italic>Aglaophamus lobatus<\/jats:italic>,<jats:italic>A<\/jats:italic>. cf.<jats:italic>verrilli<\/jats:italic>,<jats:italic>Micronephthys stammeri<\/jats:italic>) and one is new to science (<jats:italic>Inermonephtys aramco<\/jats:italic>).<jats:italic>Inermonephtys aramco<\/jats:italic>was collected in the southern region of the Red Sea at depths between 60 and 83 m. It is characterized by the presence of branchiae from chaetiger 15 or 16, well-developed parapodial prechaetal lamellae, broadly rounded notopodial postchaetal lamellae and rudimentary neuropodial postchaetal lamellae. The species<jats:italic>Nephtys palatii<\/jats:italic>is transferred to the genus<jats:italic>Micronephthys<\/jats:italic>. Based on the current finding, the previously known bathymetric range of<jats:italic>Micronephthys stammeri<\/jats:italic>is extended from 4\u20137 to 17 m, and occurrence depths for<jats:italic>N. palatii<\/jats:italic>are given for the first time (4\u201390 m). Full descriptions are included for all species except<jats:italic>M. stammeri<\/jats:italic>.
