Beams"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2001,4]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>X-ray emission spectra in the 5\u201322 nm range were recorded \nfrom planar and structured (meshlike groove surface) gold targets \nat 45\u00b0 and 90\u00b0 to the laser axis. A laser beam of 10-ns \nduration with <jats:italic>E<\/jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>L<\/jats:italic><\/jats:sub> \u2264 700 mJ and \n1.06-\u03bcm wavelength was used for the experiment. Experimental \nresults indicate an enhanced X-ray yield from a structured target \nas compared to a planar target under identical experimental conditions. \nIncreased X-ray emission is attributed to plasma confinement and the \npossibility of conversion of kinetic energy into localized thermal \nenergy of the plasma.
