Parents of 2\u20139-year-olds completed an FFQ and factor analysis was applied to identify dietary patterns. Parents also completed questionnaires assessing sociodemographic, anthropometric and behavioural characteristics of parents and children, including parental feeding practices.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec id=\"S1368980017002452_abs3\" sec-type=\"general\"><jats:title>Setting<\/jats:title><jats:p>Participants were recruited from private schools of Campinas and S\u00e3o Paulo, SP, Brazil, between April and June 2014.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec id=\"S1368980017002452_abs4\" sec-type=\"subjects\"><jats:title>Subjects<\/jats:title><jats:p>Parents of 2\u20139-year-olds (<jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic> 929).<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec id=\"S1368980017002452_abs5\" sec-type=\"results\"><jats:title>Results<\/jats:title><jats:p>Two dietary patterns emerged: \u2018traditional food\u2019 and \u2018ultra-processed food\u2019. Lower maternal education (OR=2\u00b705, <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic>=0\u00b7010) and higher maternal weight status (OR=1\u00b743, <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic>=0\u00b7044) were associated with a greater likelihood of the ultra-processed food pattern. Lower perceived parental responsibility for adequacy of food group intake (OR=2\u00b741, <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic>=0\u00b7020), and lower scores on the parental feeding practices of \u2018Healthy Eating Guidance\u2019 (OR=1\u00b783, <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic>&lt;0\u00b7001) and \u2018Monitoring\u2019 (OR=2\u00b752, <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic>&lt;0\u00b7001), were also associated with the presence of this pattern, as was higher child\u2019s screen use during mealtimes (OR=1\u00b761, <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic>=0\u00b7004).<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec id=\"S1368980017002452_abs6\" sec-type=\"conclusions\"><jats:title>Conclusions<\/jats:title><jats:p>The present study is the first to evaluate associations between less healthy dietary patterns of Brazilian 2\u20139-year-olds and parental feeding practices.
