{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,3,24]],"date-time":"2026-03-24T22:42:56Z","timestamp":1774392176953,"version":"3.50.1"},"reference-count":45,"publisher":"Cambridge University Press (CUP)","issue":"5","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2022,1,24]],"date-time":"2022-01-24T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1642982400000},"content-version":"unspecified","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by\/4.0\/"}],"content-domain":{"domain":["cambridge.org"],"crossmark-restriction":true},"short-container-title":["Public Health Nutr."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2022,5]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:sec id=\"S1368980022000180_as1\"><jats:title>Objective:<\/jats:title><jats:p>Describe the process of development and implementation of<jats:italic>Health at the Table<\/jats:italic>\u2013 a food literacy curriculum for primary school aged children.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec id=\"S1368980022000180_as2\"><jats:title>Design:<\/jats:title><jats:p>Through a community-based research process,<jats:italic>Health at the Table<\/jats:italic>development and implementation took place in four stages: exploratory study, production, implementation and monitoring.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec id=\"S1368980022000180_as3\"><jats:title>Setting:<\/jats:title><jats:p>Primary schools of Sintra\u2019s municipality, Portugal.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec id=\"S1368980022000180_as4\"><jats:title>Participants:<\/jats:title><jats:p>Children (6\u201310 years), teachers, school staff and children\u2019s legal guardians of three primary schools during the pilot project and eight primary schools in the second year.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec id=\"S1368980022000180_as5\"><jats:title>Results:<\/jats:title><jats:p>During the needs assessment phase, 99\u00b71 % (<jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic>341) of the children\u2019s legal guardians, 100 % (<jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic>34) of the teachers and 100 % (<jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic>19) of the school staff considered that the school plays an important or very important role in children\u2019s food literacy (stage 1). During the pilot project, a manual with sixty session plans was developed (stage 2). In the second year,<jats:italic>Health at the Table<\/jats:italic>was implemented by seventy-two trained teachers during one school year (stage 3). Most of the teachers agreed that the curriculum was appropriate (69\u00b72 %) and that children developed health, wellness\/well-being and environmental skills (83\u00b71 %). Most of the children said they had learned about healthy eating (86\u00b73 %) and claimed to eat healthier since the<jats:italic>Health at the Table<\/jats:italic>implementation (58\u00b79 %) (stage 4).<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec id=\"S1368980022000180_as6\"><jats:title>Conclusions:<\/jats:title><jats:p><jats:italic>Health at the Table<\/jats:italic>is a food literacy curriculum that can be reproduced in similar contexts in a sustainable way.
