To convince ourselves that the decays were, indeed, tetraexponential, the fluorescence decays of 3-OHF were also measured by picosecond TCSPC in Klaas Zachariasse\u2019s laboratory (see the Acknowledgements), with identical results. The capability of the MPI equipment to measure decay times as short as 3 ps has been shown in a substantial number of publications, where these short times were confirmed using femtosecond time-resolved absorption (Niko Ernsting\u2019s laboratory at the University of Berlin).
