Moral foundations are strongly intertwined with political ideologies. However, prior research has relied mostly on single-item measures of political ideology and variable-centered approaches. In this study, we aimed to deepen our understanding of the moral features of political ideology by (a) describing the associations between different components of political ideology and moral foundations and (b) applying person-centered approaches to capture the moral dynamics underlying political ideology. Using raw scores of moral foundations, we replicated findings indicating care-fairness was the least politicized. Contrastingly, when using ipsatized scores, liberals prioritized care-fairness, whereas conservatives prioritized loyalty-authority-purity. Finally, three moral clusters (\u201cLow Moralists\u201d, \u201cIndividuators\u201d, and \u201cHigh Moralists\u201d) were extracted. The Individuators were more liberal, while the Low and High Moralists were more conservative.
