The three laws are incorporated to give a generalized Omori's law for aftershock decay rates that depend on several parameters specific for each given seismogenic region. It is shown that the characteristic time c<\/jats:italic>, first introduced in the modified Omori's law, is no longer a constant but scales with a lower magnitude cutoff and a mainshock magnitude. The generalized Omori's law is tested against earthquake catalogs for the aftershock sequences of the Landers, Northridge, Hector Mine, and San Simeon earthquakes.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1029\/2004gl019808","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2004,6,11]],"date-time":"2004-06-11T20:48:39Z","timestamp":1086986919000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":144,"title":["A generalized Omori's law for earthquake aftershock decay"],"prefix":"10.1029","volume":"31","author":[{"given":"Robert","family":"Shcherbakov","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Center for Computational Science and Engineering, Departments of Physics and Geology University of California Davis California USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Donald L.","family":"Turcotte","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Geology University of California Davis California USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"John B.","family":"Rundle","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Center for Computational Science and Engineering, Departments of Physics and Geology University of California Davis California USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"13","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2004,6,12]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_6_2_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/0040-1951(65)90003-X"},{"key":"e_1_2_6_3_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1029\/2001JB001651"},{"key":"e_1_2_6_4_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1029\/2001JB000911"},{"key":"e_1_2_6_5_1","unstructured":"B.
