During LISTOS, the University at Albany Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC) mobile laboratory was used for measuring surface O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>, NO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>, and aerosol number and mass concentration. Sharp O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> concentration gradients, with \u0394O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> \u0394y<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup> over 15\u00a0ppb\u00a0km<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>, were measured both at and near the land\u2010water interface and on the highway on days characterized by high regional O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> concentrations. These large O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> gradients at or near the land\u2010water interface, and in air masses relatively low in NO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>, are shown to be influenced in part by the transport of highly oxidized air masses via sea breeze circulation and convergence with gradient flow. On the highway under regionally high O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> concentrations, strong anticorrelation (<jats:italic>R<\/jats:italic><jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>\u00a0=\u00a00.78, <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u00a0&lt;\u00a00.05) between O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> and NO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> and an absolute slope less than 1 suggested that O<jats:sub>x<\/jats:sub> concentrations (O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>\u00a0+\u00a0NO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>) increased with increasing NO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>. Overall, the on\u2010road measurements made during LISTOS help to better characterize the interaction between the emitted pollution and the meteorological conditions on Long Island, thereby having potential policy
