Our determination of 80 S for sedimentation value of ribosomes of Avena coleoptile sections is based on preparations containing both chloroplast and cytoplasmic ribosomes. As such the 80 S value is general and tentative, pending clarification for our system of the two populations of ribosomes. It is interesting that Biswas and Biswas16 report an actinomycin D-resistant synthesis of RNA by chloroplasts isolated from spinach leaves.
