Many studies on various dopants have been reported; however, a general relationship between the dopants and their effect on the stability of the positive electrode upon prolonged cell cycling has yet to be established. Here, we explore the impact of the oxidation states of various dopants (i.e., Mg\n                    <jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup>\n                    , Al\n                    <jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup>\n                    , Ti\n                    <jats:sup>4+<\/jats:sup>\n                    , Ta\n                    <jats:sup>5+<\/jats:sup>\n                    , and Mo\n                    <jats:sup>6+<\/jats:sup>\n                    ) on the electrochemical, morphological, and structural properties of a Ni-rich cathode material (i.e., Li[Ni\n                    <jats:sub>0.91<\/jats:sub>\n                    Co\n                    <jats:sub>0.09<\/jats:sub>\n                    ]O\n                    <jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>\n                    ). Galvanostatic cycling measurements in pouch-type Li-ion\u00a0full cells show that cathodes featuring dopants with high oxidation states significantly outperform their undoped counterparts and the dopants with low oxidation states. In particular, Li-ion pouch cells with Ta\n                    <jats:sup>5+<\/jats:sup>\n                    - and Mo\n                    <jats:sup>6+<\/jats:sup>\n                    -doped Li[Ni\n                    <jats:sub>0.91<\/jats:sub>\n                    Co\n                    <jats:sub>0.09<\/jats:sub>\n                    ]O\n                    <jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>\n                    cathodes retain about 81.5% of their initial specific capacity after 3000 cycles at 200\u2009mA\u2009g\n                    <jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>\n                    .
