Its vicinity has allowed measuring individual stellar orbits around it\n                    <jats:sup>2\u20134<\/jats:sup>\n                    . The stars act as test particles and probe the gravitational potential around the 4.3\u00a0\u00d7\u00a010\n                    <jats:sup>6<\/jats:sup>\n                    <jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic>\n                    <jats:sub>\u2299<\/jats:sub>\n                    MBH. These observations have determined the central mass to sub-per-cent precision\n                    <jats:sup>5<\/jats:sup>\n                    , and the mildly relativistic motions of stars have given access to the dominant relativistic corrections, the gravitational redshift\n                    <jats:sup>6,7<\/jats:sup>\n                    , the transverse Doppler effect and the prograde precession imposed by the Schwarzschild metric nature of the potential\n                    <jats:sup>8<\/jats:sup>\n                    . These effects are of order\n                    <jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\n                    <jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>\n                    \u00a0=\u00a0(\n                    <jats:italic>v<\/jats:italic>\n                    \/\n                    <jats:italic>c<\/jats:italic>\n                    )\n                    <jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>\n                    (for velocity\n                    <jats:italic>v<\/jats:italic>\n                    and speed of light\n                    <jats:italic>c<\/jats:italic>\n                    ). The Kerr metric for a rotating black hole leads to corrections of order\n                    <jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\n                    <jats:sup>3<\/jats:sup>\n                    . Here, we report the discovery of a faint main-sequence star (\n                    <jats:italic>m<\/jats:italic>\n                    <jats:sub>K<\/jats:sub>\n                    \u00a0=\u00a019.3), S301, on an 8.7-year orbit and with small enough a pericentre distance, such that the peak velocity of the star reaches 25,000\u2009km\u2009s\n                    <jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>\n                    . Within the measurement abilities of current near-infrared interferometry and future spectroscopy on an extremely large telescope, the motion of S301 is directly sensitive to the spin of Sgr A*.
