Whether this pathway is also involved in the aggravation of pain sensation during stress events was here investigated. The levels of plasmatic NGF were increased in rats submitted to Water Avoidance Stress test (WAS), compared to controls. The administration of the alpha1A adrenoceptors blocker silodosin prevented the increase of plasmatic NGF. Urinary NGF levels were also moderately increased in animals submitted to WAS. WAS increased pain behaviour score, lowered abdominal mechanical pain threshold and increase voiding bladder reflex activity. These changes were prevented by the administration of TrkA antagonist GW441756. These findings prompt the use of plasmatic NGF as diagnosis tool for chronic visceral painful conditions and opens therapeutic opportunities for TrkA receptors antagonist\/NGF sequestration.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1038\/s41598-019-50576-4","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,10,1]],"date-time":"2019-10-01T10:02:32Z","timestamp":1569924152000},"update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":18,"title":["Effect of Water Avoidance Stress on serum and urinary NGF levels in rats: diagnostic and therapeutic implications for BPS\/IC patients"],"prefix":"10.1038","volume":"9","author":[{"given":"Bruno","family":"Dias","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Paula","family":"Serr\u00e3o","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Francisco","family":"Cruz","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7717-7790","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Ana","family":"Charrua","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2019,10,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"50576_CR1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","first-page":"774","DOI":"10.1038\/nm0895-774","volume":"1","author":"SB McMahon","year":"1995","unstructured":"McMahon, S.
