{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,10,30]],"date-time":"2025-10-30T06:52:14Z","timestamp":1761807134619},"reference-count":37,"publisher":"Wiley","issue":"3","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2009,1,30]],"date-time":"2009-01-30T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1233273600000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":3286,"URL":"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/termsAndConditions#vor"}],"content-domain":{"domain":["bpspubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com"],"crossmark-restriction":true},"short-container-title":["British J Pharmacology"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2000,2]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>\n<jats:list list-type=\"explicit-label\">\n<jats:list-item><jats:p>The present study examined the effect of dopamine on rat jejunal electrolyte transport (rheogenic transport and Na<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>, K<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>\u2010ATPase activity) in adult (60\u2010day old) and young (20\u2010day old) animals.<\/jats:p><\/jats:list-item>\n<jats:list-item><jats:p>In young rats, dopamine, in the presence of phentolamine, produced an increase in jejunal I<jats:sub>sc<\/jats:sub>, this being completely abolished by SKF 83566, and not changed by S\u2010sulpiride. SKF 38393, but not quinerolane, also increased I<jats:sub>sc<\/jats:sub>; this effect was abolished by SKF 83566 and ouabain, but not by furosemide. In adult rats, dopamine in the presence of phentolamine (0.2\u2003\u03bc<jats:sc>M<\/jats:sc>) decreased I<jats:sub>sc<\/jats:sub>.<\/jats:p><\/jats:list-item>\n<jats:list-item><jats:p>Na<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>, K<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>\u2010ATPase activity in isolated jejunal epithelial cells from adult rats was 2.4 fold that in young rats. In the presence of phentolamine, both dopamine and SKF 38393, but not quinerolane, significantly decreased jejunal Na<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>, K<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>\u2010ATPase activity in young animals but not in adult animals.<\/jats:p><\/jats:list-item>\n<jats:list-item><jats:p>Binding [<jats:sup>3<\/jats:sup>H]\u2010Sch 23390 to membranes of jejunal mucosa revealed the presence of a single class of receptors in both young and adult rats, with similar K<jats:sub>D<\/jats:sub> and B<jats:sub>max<\/jats:sub> values.<\/jats:p><\/jats:list-item>\n<jats:list-item><jats:p>GTP\u03b3S and cholera toxin inhibited jejunal Na<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>, K<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>\u2010ATPase activity in young, but not in adult rats.
