From the 3.15\u2032 \u00d7 3.15\u2032 mosaic of the<jats:italic>Hubble<\/jats:italic>Ultra Deep Field (UDF) obtained with the VLT\/MUSE integral field spectrograph, we identify a statistical sample of 40 Fe\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>* emitters and 50 Mg\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>(<jats:italic>\u03bb\u03bb<\/jats:italic>2796,2803) emitters from a sample of 271 [O\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>]<jats:italic>\u03bb\u03bb<\/jats:italic>3726,3729 emitters with reliable redshifts from<jats:italic>z<\/jats:italic>= 0.85\u22121.50 down to 2 \u00d7 10<jats:sup>-18<\/jats:sup>(3<jats:italic>\u03c3<\/jats:italic>) ergs s<jats:sup>-1<\/jats:sup>cm<jats:sup>-2<\/jats:sup>(for [O\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>]), covering the<jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>\u22c6<\/jats:italic><\/jats:sub>range from 10<jats:sup>8<\/jats:sup>\u221210<jats:sup>11<\/jats:sup><jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>\u2299<\/jats:sub>. The Fe\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>* and Mg\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>emitters follow the galaxy main sequence, but with a clear dichotomy. Galaxies with masses below 10<jats:sup>9<\/jats:sup><jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>\u2299<\/jats:sub>and star formation rates (SFRs) of \u2272 1<jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>\u2299<\/jats:sub>yr<jats:sup>-1<\/jats:sup>have Mg\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>emission without accompanying Fe\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>* emission, whereas galaxies with masses above 10<jats:sup>10<\/jats:sup><jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>\u2299<\/jats:sub>and<jats:italic>SFR<\/jats:italic>s \u2273 10<jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>\u2299<\/jats:sub>yr<jats:sup>-1<\/jats:sup>have Fe\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>* emission without accompanying Mg\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>emission. Between these two regimes, galaxies have both Mg\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>and Fe\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>* emission, typically with Mg\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>P Cygni profiles. Indeed, the Mg\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>profile shows a progression along the main sequence from pure emission to P Cygni profiles to strong absorption, due to resonant trapping. Combining the deep MUSE data with HST ancillary information, we find that galaxies with pure Mg\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>emission profiles have lower SFR surface densities than those with either Mg\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>P Cygni profiles or Fe\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>* emission. These spectral signatures produced through continuum scattering and fluorescence, Mg\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>P Cygni profiles and Fe\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>* emission, are better candidates for tracing galactic outflows than pure Mg\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>emission, which may originate from H\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>regions. We compare the absorption and emission rest-frame equivalent widths for pairs of Fe\u2009<jats:sc>ii<\/jats:sc>transitions to predictions from outflow models and find that the observations consistently have less total re-emission than absorption, suggesting either dust extinction or non-isotropic outflow
