Analysis, in the framework of Landau theory of phase transitions (G=G0+1\/2AM2+1\/4BM4+1\/6CM6\u2212MH) reveals that for La0.67Ca0.33MnO3\u200a(TC=267\u200aK),\u2008La0.8MnO3\u200a(TC=250\u200aK), and La0.60Y0.07Ca0.33MnO3\u200a(TC=150\u200aK) the phase transition is first-order and the B coefficient is temperature dependent, negative near TC. In field (H&amp;lt;HC*) and temperature (TC&amp;lt;T&amp;lt;TC*) ranges, below the critical point of the first-order phase transition, clear features are found, with hysteresis. For La0.60Y0.07Ca0.33MnO3,\u2008HC*\u223c20\u200akOe,\u2008\u0394T=TC*\u2212TC\u223c20\u200aK. For La0.67Ca0.33MnO3, on the other hand, HC* is only 250 Oe and \u0394T&amp;lt;1\u200aK. These effects are related with electronic and elastic energy contributions coupled to the magnetic order parameter. The analysis of the vanishing of B above TC suggests that a tricritical point should occur at T\u223c310\u200aK, in agreement with the temperature at which the magnetic and structural transitions in La0.7(Ca1\u2212ySry)0.3MnO3 coincide.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1063\/1.1558271","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2003,5,15]],"date-time":"2003-05-15T23:33:55Z","timestamp":1053041635000},"page":"7646-7648","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1063\/aip-crossmark-policy-page","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":24,"title":["Tricritical points in La-based ferromagnetic manganites"],"prefix":"10.1063","volume":"93","author":[{"given":"V.
