The origin of these ROI has been\n controversial.\n                    <jats:italic>Arabidopsis<\/jats:italic>\n                    respiratory burst oxidase\n homologues (\n                    <jats:italic>rboh<\/jats:italic>\n                    genes) have been proposed to play a\n role in ROI generation. We analyzed lines carrying\n                    <jats:italic>dSpm<\/jats:italic>\n                    insertions in the highly expressed\n                    <jats:italic>AtrbohD<\/jats:italic>\n                    and\n                    <jats:italic>AtrbohF<\/jats:italic>\n                    genes. Both are required for full ROI production\n observed during incompatible interactions with the bacterial pathogen\n                    <jats:italic>Pseudomonas syringae<\/jats:italic>\n                    pv. tomato\n DC3000(\n                    <jats:italic>avrRpm1<\/jats:italic>\n                    ) and the oomycete parasite\n                    <jats:italic>Peronospora parasitica<\/jats:italic>\n                    . We also observed reduced\n cell death, visualized by trypan blue stain and reduced electrolyte\n leakage, in the\n                    <jats:italic>Atrboh<\/jats:italic>\n                    mutants after\n DC3000(\n                    <jats:italic>avrRpm1<\/jats:italic>\n                    ) inoculation. However, enhanced cell\n death is observed after infection of mutant lines with\n                    <jats:italic>P.\n parasitica<\/jats:italic>\n                    .
