U.S.A."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2001,5,8]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>\n                    Critical to homeostasis of blood cell production by hematopoietic\n stem\/progenitor (HSC\/P) cells is the regulation of HSC\/P\n retention within the bone marrow microenvironment and migration between\n the bone marrow and the blood. Key extracellular regulatory elements\n for this process have been defined (cell\u2013cell adhesion, growth\n factors, chemokines), but the mechanism by which HSC\/P cells\n reconcile multiple external signals has not been elucidated. Rac and\n related small GTPases are candidates for this role and were studied in\n HSC\/P deficient in Rac2, a hematopoietic cell-specific family member.\n Rac2 appears to be critical for HSC\/P adhesion both\n                    <jats:italic>in\n vitro<\/jats:italic>\n                    and\n                    <jats:italic>in vivo<\/jats:italic>\n                    , whereas a compensatory\n increase in Cdc42 activation regulates HSC\/P migration.
