This activity is part of the SFL-based genre pedagogy programme Reading to Learn (\n                    <jats:xref>Rose and Martin 2012<\/jats:xref>\n                    ). The study is based on the appliability of SFL, specifically appraisal theory\n\t\t\t\t\t\t(\n                    <jats:xref>Martin and White 2005<\/jats:xref>\n                    ), as a tool for constructing pedagogical action aimed at the\n\t\t\t\t\tappropriation of linguistic resources. The analysis focuses on the manifestations of\n                    <jats:sc>appreciation, graduation<\/jats:sc>\n                    , and\n                    <jats:sc>engagement<\/jats:sc>\n                    from appraisal theory, as well as the dimension of\n                    <jats:sc>justification<\/jats:sc>\n                    , added to the appraisal\n\t\t\t\t\tframework.
