Evidence from the <jats:italic>Corpus of Irish English Correspondence<\/jats:italic> highlights differences between\n                                discourse marker <jats:italic>sure<\/jats:italic> in IrE and other varieties. The IrE discourse marker does not typically occur\n                                between subject and verb, but at the beginning or end (and occasionally in the middle) of a clause. Also, IrE\n                                    <jats:italic>sure<\/jats:italic> is not usually prominent intonationally and tends not to signal emphasis, but rather\n                                expected consensus.
