Helminthol."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2006,3]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>Anisakid nematodes belonging to the <jats:italic>Anisakis simplex<\/jats:italic> complex are highly prevalent in several fish species off the coast of Portugal and are an important zoonotic problem in the Iberian Peninsula. Two reproductively isolated sibling species of the <jats:italic>Anisakis simplex<\/jats:italic> complex were identified from Pleuronectiformes inhabiting the Portuguese coast using restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). Recombinant genotypes corresponding to presumptive <jats:italic>Anisakis simplex<\/jats:italic> sensu stricto and <jats:italic>Anisakis pegreffii<\/jats:italic> hybrids were also detected by this technique, as well as the species <jats:italic>Anisakis typica<\/jats:italic>. Although 25 species of Pleuronectiformes were investigated, <jats:italic>Anisakis<\/jats:italic> spp. larvae were only found in seven: <jats:italic>Arnoglossus imperialis, Arnoglossus laterna, Lepidorhombus boscii, Citharus linguatula, Platichthys flesus, Dicologlossa cuneata<\/jats:italic> and <jats:italic>Solea senegalensis<\/jats:italic>.
