Within 7\u00a0days, each participant performed two repetitions of an age\u2010related intensity\u2010adapted Yo\u2010Yo intermittent test, i.e. the Yo\u2010Yo intermittent recovery level 1 children's test for 9\u2010 to 11\u2010year\u2010olds; the Yo\u2010Yo intermittent endurance level 1 for 12\u2010 to 13\u2010year\u2010olds and the Yo\u2010Yo intermittent endurance level 2 test for 14\u2010 to 16\u2010year\u2010olds. Peak heart rate (HR<jats:sub>peak<\/jats:sub>) was determined for all tests. The distance covered in the tests was 57% (1098 \u00b1 680 vs. 700 \u00b1 272\u2005m), 119% (2325 \u00b1 778 vs. 1062 \u00b1 285\u2005m) and 238% (1743 \u00b1 460 vs. 515 \u00b1 113\u2005m) higher (<jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic> \u2264 .016), respectively for football\u2010trained than for non\u2010sports active boys aged 9\u201311, 12\u201313 and 14\u201316 years. The typical errors of measurement for Yo\u2010Yo distance, expressed as a percentage of the coefficient of variation (confidence interval), were 11.1% (9.0\u201314.7%), 10.1% (8.1\u201313.7%) and 8.5% (6.7\u201311.7%) for football players aged 9\u201311, 12\u201313 and 14\u201316 years, respectively, with corresponding values of 9.3% (7.4\u201312.8%), 10.2% (8.1\u201314.0%) and 8.5% (6.8\u201311.3%) for non\u2010sports active boys. Intraclass correlation coefficient values for test\u2013retest were excellent in both groups (range: 0.844\u20130.981). Relative HR<jats:sub>peak<\/jats:sub> did not differ significantly between the groups in test and retest. In conclusion, Yo\u2010Yo intermittent test performances and HR<jats:sub>peak<\/jats:sub> are reliable for 9\u2010 to 16\u2010year\u2010old footballers and non\u2010sports active boys.
