A sample of 241 youth (114 girls) aged 10 \u2010 18 years, completed the Motor Competence Assessment battery with composite scores indexed according to age\u2010 and gender\u2010adjusted percentile scores. Motor competence (MC) levels were categorized as low (\u2264 25<jats:sup>%tile<\/jats:sup> \u2013 proficiency barrier), moderate (\u2265 26<jats:sup>%tile<\/jats:sup> to\u2009&lt;\u200975<jats:sup>%tile<\/jats:sup>), and high (\u2265 75<jats:sup>%tile<\/jats:sup>). CRF levels (Health Risk, Needs Improvement, and Healthy) were assessed using the Fitnessgram\u00ae 20\u00a0m PACER test. Low (\u2264 20<jats:sup>%tile<\/jats:sup>), moderate (\u2265 21<jats:sup>%tile<\/jats:sup> to\u2009\u2264\u200980<jats:sup>%tile<\/jats:sup>), and high (\u2265 80<jats:sup>%tile<\/jats:sup>) MSF levels were assessed using grip strength normative data. Two 3\u2009\u00d7\u20093 chi\u2010square tests were conducted to determine the probability of MC level predicting CRF and MSF levels. Results demonstrated statistically significant models for performance on both the PACER (\u03c7<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>[4, <jats:italic>N\u2009<\/jats:italic>=\u2009241]\u2009=\u200922.65, <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u2009&lt;\u2009.001) and grip strength (\u03c7<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>[4, <jats:italic>N\u2009<\/jats:italic>=\u2009241]\u2009=\u200923.95, <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u2009&lt;\u2009.001). Strong evidence of a proficiency barrier impacting CRF was noted, as no low skilled youth met the \u201cHealthy\u201d fitness zone standards for PACER performance. Evidence supporting a barrier with grip strength was not as strong, as 20.8% of youth exhibiting low MC displayed high grip strength. However, all individuals with high levels of MC demonstrated at least moderate grip strength.
